The Army announced today that it has tapped Lt. Gen. David Hodne to lead the service’s future Transformation and Training Command that will combine Army Futures Command and Training and Doctrine Command.
Hodne, currently the commanding general for futures and concepts at AFC, was appointed by the Army to the rank of general, according to a July 15 congressional notice.
The Army announced in early May that as part of its sweeping transformation initiative, AFC and TRADOC would be combined into one command “that aligns force generation, force design and force development under a single headquarters.”
While not all details are known to this point about the new command, Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George has said it will be headquartered in Austin, TX, where AFC is currently located.
Additionally, the Army said in a media release earlier this month that the official execution order directing the merger is expected next month, and the process of standing up the new command is expected to begin around Oct. 1. Despite the restructure, not all personnel at TRADOC’s Ft. Eustis, VA headquarters will relocate, according to the Army.
The AFC-TRADOC merger has been scrutinized by lawmakers in Congress, with both the House and Senate Armed Services committees including provisions in their respective defense policy bills mandating the Army secretary submit a report detailing the rationale for the command shakeup.
