SAN DIEGO – Following the completion of its six-year-long, $550 million revitalization supported by Blackstone Real Estate, the Hotel del Coronado announced the appointment of its new General Manager, Marco Tabet.

“As the Hotel del Coronado prepared to conclude its six-year revitalization project this past June, the team was seeking a General Manager to lead the resort into its next chapter,” Tabet said. “I was drawn to the challenge and honored to join such a talented team at one of America’s most iconic properties.”

After a six-year tenure as General Manager at Conrad Punta de Mita in Nayarit, Mexico, Tabet brings over two decades of hospitality experience to his new role. He has served as General Manager at several Hilton properties, including Hilton Los Cabos, Hilton Lima Miraflores in Peru, and Waldorf Astoria Panama.

As he enters his new role, Tabet is excited to join San Diego’s hospitality community.

“I recall a vacation to the area a few years back and as we arrived in Coronado and drove down Orange Avenue, my wife looked at me and said, ‘I could live here,’” Tabet said. “That moment stayed with us — and now, we’re thrilled to be making that dream a reality for our entire family.”

New Leadership, Same Spirit

After the Hotel Del’s comprehensive refresh, Tabet is focused on channeling both his own expertise and the hotel’s renowned reputation.

“Now that the revitalization is complete, with restored historic spaces and exciting new additions like the Shore House villas, Nobu and Veranda (restaurants), we’re turning our attention to the guest experience,” Tabet said. “Our vision is to continue positioning The Del as one of the country’s premier destinations by elevating service across our 28-acre campus and introducing a dynamic lineup of immersive guest offerings, including seasonal pop-ups, curated events and unforgettable moments rooted in the property’s storied legacy.”

As San Diego’s hospitality market evolves, Tabet predicts that technology, wellness and sustainability will be key trends.

“At The Del, we’re embracing these shifts by prioritizing innovation at every guest touchpoint — from personalized service to eco-conscious practices — ensuring that each stay is both meaningful and memorable,” Tabet said.

In his new role, Tabet will oversee the daily operations and overall strategic direction of the hotel.

“It’s truly an honor to be entrusted with leading the next chapter of this legendary resort,” Tabet said. “I’ve also been incredibly inspired by our team — more than 1,300 passionate professionals, many with years or even decades of service. Their dedication and pride in The Del are unlike anything I’ve seen, and I’m excited to be working alongside them.”

Entering a New Era

Built in 1888, the Hotel Del has long served as a historic landmark and community hub in San Diego. The conclusion of its major revitalization aspired to showcase its Victorian roots.

BRE Hotels & Resorts, a Blackstone Real Estate Portfolio Company, VP of Development Mike Haslett directed all design, approval, permitting and construction of the projects involved in the multi-year restoration.

“The 29-acre campus was completely transformed… Every building on the property went through a rigorous revitalization, bringing to life the property’s deep history and architectural magnificence,” Haslett said. “We also constructed a whole new hotel on property, the Shore House at The Del, and added a 727-car underground parking structure.”

In each phase of the restoration project, Haslett sought to intertwine modern and historical touches.

“We believe this complimentary existence between old and new adds to the Del’s already extensive legacy, which is synonymous with innovation,” Haslett said. “In fact, the Hotel Del is the site of the first outdoor electrically lit holiday tree, just one example of our innovative history and why it was paramount to capture that in our revitalization.”

The project created more than 300 full-time resort jobs and thousands of construction jobs.

“When guests arrive and experience the revitalized Hotel Del for the first time, you can hear audible ‘wows’ as they make their way up the entrance steps,” Haslett said. “It’s incredible to be a part of the project that brought it back to life and gratifying to know that our work here will be enjoyed for generations to come.”

Tabet hopes to continue writing the Hotel Del’s story, shaping its impact on San Diego’s hospitality market and community.

“Since its founding in 1888, The Del has been innovating, constantly introducing new experiences to the next generation of travelers and we are carrying that spirit of innovation moving forward,” Tabet said.
