Homeland Security Today, the premier nonprofit news and information resource for the homeland security community, is proud to announce the launch of a dedicated vertical and newsletter on Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention under the visionary leadership of Bill Braniff, Executive Director of the Polarization and Extremism Research and Innovation Lab (PERIL) in the School of Public Affairs at American University and former Director of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Center for Prevention Programs and Partnership (CP3).

“Understanding, seeing, and preventing the crossover from grievance into extreme violence is tantamount to secure communities.  We are extremely proud to host the Prevention community and work with Bill to share ideas, curate content, and promote the important work of prevention professionals from across the country,” said HSToday’s Executive Editor Kristina Tanasichuk.

Homeland Security Today will produce a quarterly newsletter and a regularly updated website vertical devoted to topics around the prevention of targeted violence, including terrorism, premeditated hate crime, and grievance-based violence (such as many acts of school or workplace violence).  The vertical will cover news and information that can inform an audience interested in prevention, offer a forum for professionals to exchange ideas, and encourage the collaboration between professionals, practitioners, and the public.  All of the resources are free and seek to build and nurture information sharing on lessons learned and best practices to prevent violent attacks.

“I am extremely grateful to Homeland Security Today for stepping up and helping to build on the momentum that the prevention community has built over the past several years. I am personally very excited to help amplify the work of this community, and to help it grow in size and effectiveness. Through collaboration among prevention practitioners, governments, public safety officials, communities-based organizations, and the general public, we will strengthen the fabric of prevention across the nation.  I look forward to working with all of you to do that,” said Braniff at the announcement.
